The City of Andalusia will be decorated with white, red and blue, as the city gets ready in time for Fourth of July, with a variety of events and activities planned.
The Daughters of the American Revolution Old Three Notch Chapter in collaboration together with city officials will host the parade on July 4. The parade starts with a start time of 10 a.m. starting at the First Baptist Church and continues down East Three Notch to the WAAO radio station. Anyone is welcome to join at the event.
“We are very excited to host an annually scheduled Fourth of July parade again. We’ll have the usual confetti and small inflatable patriotic throws to children. Popsicles will be distributed throughout the parade route.” Brenda Gouge said.
The grand marshal this year for the parade is a veteran and the current Circuit Court Judge Ben Bowden.
In the evening at dusk, it is expected that the City of Andalusia will host an outdoor fireworks display on Kiwanis Fairgrounds. Kiwanis Fairgrounds. The gates will be open at 5:45 p.m. with live entertainment from 55 South will start with a start time of 6 p.m. Entry is for free. The event will include a bounce house and a water slide for kids as well as free slices of watermelon for everyone. Smash Mouth Foods and Kona Ice trucks will be serving food.
Andalusia Ballet will also be taking part in the patriotic spirit through the every year “Summer Dances” between 7 and 8. p.m. inside the LBWCC Dixon Center for the Performing Arts. The performance this year will pay homage to the founding of our country with songs and dances that celebrate our nation’s history. Entry is for free. Tiler Peck as well as Roman Mejia of the New York City Ballet will be performing together with Andalusia Ballet’s its own Jose Soares and summer intensive students.
The city of Opp will be hosting their Independence Day Celebration at Frank Jackson State Park. The event is free and will be beginning around 10 a.m. and a fireworks show to follow at dusk. Opp’s City of Opp will provide watermelon slices for free and The Opp Trailmasters will be selling Pepsi products, hamburgers and walking tacos.
