Mitchell Alexander of the Covington County Cattlemen’s Association has recently contributed monetary funds towards Jana Clark of Andalusia High School in celebration of Beef Month, recognized in October.
Clark instructs classes in consumer and family sciences at AHS. The money is used to buy beef for her class so that students will be able to learn about different cuts of meat and the importance of the nutritional value of beef as well as the correct cooking temperature and much more.
“My family and the consumer sciences department as well as I am grateful of Mitchell as well as the Cattlemen’s Alliance’s generous donation. We’ve already used the funds for various recipes, including cheeseburgers and tacos to the Halloween lab. The students will make use of the money we have received throughout the course of the semester,” Clark said.
Alexander currently serves as vice-president of The Covington County Cattlemen’s Association, which he has been a full member for the past six years. He graduated in 2012 from Andalusia High School.
“I first became involved in an leadership position after going through Alabama’s Cattlemen’s Association’s Young Cattlemen’s Leadership Program. The YCLP program is comprised of workshops for leadership and tours of industry throughout the state over 1 year. I was vice-president for the past two years, and I will take on the presidency role at our next quarterly gathering,” Alexander said.
Alexander said that he was thankful to be part of his local Covington County Cattlemen’s Association.
“Being part of this group is a chance to surround myself with people who share the same goal. We all work together to promote the healthful, nutritious product we raise cattle. We want our customers to be aware that Alabama cattlemen do their part to offer a superior product to consumers. .”
As well as the gift to Clark’s school, Alexander mentioned that a separate draw with a prize of $250 was conducted during the Covington County Fair.
“Jana is doing a fantastic job in being involved in her role as Andalusia High School’s family member and teacher of consumer sciences. The board of directors of the Covington County Cattlemen’s Club decided to select her class as a one we could support in Beef Month in Alabama. We are looking forward to carrying out more outreach to the community during the coming year, and we encourage cattle producers to participate with us in our organization. We aim to promote beef through education for producers as well as consumer education and outreach to the community,” he said.
Anyone interested in joining the Cattlemen’s Association may email covingtoncattlemen@gmail.com. The association meets on a quarterly basis, and the next one is scheduled for Dec. 5 on a Tuesday. 5 starting at 6:30 p.m.
