Four candidates are qualified to be appointed to the Andalusia City Schools Board of Education. There is just one seat to be determined during an election scheduled for August.
Five board members are up for re-election this year. This includes Dist. 1, Dist. 3 3, and Dist. 5.
Residents living in Dist. 5 will be voting at the polls on Tuesday, August 22. Two candidates have been selected. Current chairman David McCalman will be challenged by Shawn Geohagen.
Dist. 3. will have John Wells who is the sole candidate to be elected to run for this seat. John Wells will succeed David Bryant who chose not to run for re-election. Bryant has been on the board for around 21 years after his appointment in 2002.
Sammy Glover will continue to represent Dist. 1 as the only qualified candidate.
Districts 2 and 4 aren’t considered in the current BOE election process. The districts are represented by Parrish King and Amy Duggar, who currently serves as the president of the BOE board.
Board members are chosen by districts. Residents of Dist. 5 will be able to go to the voting booth on Tuesday, August 22, between 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. in Kiwanis Center. Kiwanis Center. Dist. 5 is a part of the northeast part of the city.
