Dozier man was found deceased in Covington County after apparent drowning

A man has died following an incident involving marines in Covington County according to Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Woodrow R. Smith, who is 79, lives in Dozier was found in Dozier, was found dead in the Conecuh River near Gantt Lake in Covington County. Officials have said that the incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Saturday.

Smith could have been fishing at night and was discovered around 30 yards downstream of his boat with no personal flotation device.

Nothing more is available at this time as ALEA’s Troopers’ Marine Patrol Division continue to look into.
