Anyone who’s looking to be a part of a brand new choral group that is called that is the Lower Alabama Community Choir, is invited to an “Meet and Meet and Greet” meeting at Saints Cafe this week.
Eric Mancil, who will lead the group, stated that the group is something he’s longed to be part of for many years.
Mancil as well as his entire family relocated his family to Andalusia in January, when Mancil became the rector at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. Mancil is a former part of the LBW Ensemble and the Auburn Singers and was a choir teacher in high and junior secondary schools for six years prior to when his admission to the seminary.
“I was aware that a choral group might be something that people could like,” he said. “During the epidemic it was not that many people were able to do things in a group. This is a chance to connect and feel involved in something that they love doing.”
He initially contacted Ken Thomas, who is the director of the choir for Enterprise State Community College and is also an ex- Auburn University Singer. After that, he began cooperating together with Kristy White as well as The Lower Alabama Arts Coalition, who has volunteered to sponsor the group.
Mancil will host the meet and greet party at Saints Cafe from 6 to 7 p.m. on Monday, August 7. They will start rehearsals on the 21st of August, Monday. Rehearsals will take place between 6 and 8. p.m. each Monday at the Dixon Conference Room (beside the auditorium) located on the Andalusia campus that is part of LBW Community College.
In the autumn, Mancil explained that the group will be getting ready for a concert of secular and sacred music to be performed in the Christmas season for December 12 at the Dixon Center at LBW. Long range, the third plan is to have the spring concert scheduled for May.
It is available for anyone who is interested, even students in high school. There is no prior experience or reading abilities are needed according to the leader.
