In celebration of Career and Technical Education Month and Black History Month, Andalusia High School’s chapter of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America organized its Annual FCCLA Week from Feb. 13-17.
FCCLA is the technical and career-oriented student group to Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) which was previously called Home Economics. Jana Clark is the AHS FACS teacher as well as the FACS patron of FCCLA.
Every year, FCCLA officers choose to either stick with to follow the National FCCLA theme for the week or design their own. The theme that the officers picked to use this year is “Find YOUR Space.” The theme is also in line with the school’s motto: “Get Involved, Be Involved, and Take Responsibility.” It was not just the theme for FCCLA Week, but it was the theme of the club for the entire school year. It doesn’t matter if you are involved in a school-related sport, club, or other activity, or participating in a voluntary effort in the outside world, AHS FCCLA hopes to aid everyone to find their place in 2023, as everyone wants to be part of something greater that is bigger than them.
Each day’s theme for FCCLA Week were as follows:
Monday, February. 13 “When there’s involvement, you’re the star!”In honor of Black History Month and Career and Technical Education Month, FCCLA suggests that you look to the inspirational figures of the past and the present like Martin Luther King Jr., Maya Angelou, Harriet Tubman, Booker T. Washington, and Marion Jones who made use of their participation to benefit others. On the walls of the hallways, students can find quotations from these famous figures and others including Audrey Hepburn, Albert Einstein, John F. Kennedy along with Jane Goodall. They ranged from the Civil Rights Movement, Presidency and science to the arts, acting, animal research poems, and more. greats made use of their influence to create the change they wish to bring about around the globe. PIP teachers handed out Starburst candy to each pupil as a reminder of the need to “Find Your Space in 2023.” The AHS students also were provided with details about the FCCLA’s Art Heart competition.
Tuesday, February. 14 “Love your Space!”
AHS Students were asked to display appreciation to the space they call “space” with their music, group or sport shirt!
Wednesday, February. 15 “Own Your Space”
FCCLA members wore necklaces students have the option of stealing should they fail to mention “Find YOUR Space’ after everything they spoke of. The necklaces contained phrases about involvement and ways to locate spaces on both sides that officers read in every class. If a participant stole their necklaces, they were required to go on with the game and declare “Find your Space After everything they had said. Students who had an item of jewelry at the end of the day received an award.
Thursday, February. 16 “Our Space = Members” Space”
FCCLA offered its members “Muffins With members” in the course of PIP to show appreciation for their members who have been loyal to them. The seven groups comprised consisting of FCCLA students also attended over after school to create Project Linus blankets that will later be donated to Comfort Care Hospice and the Cancer Center.
Friday, February. 17 “Thank Those Who Have Influenced Your Space”
The day was also referred to for Teacher Appreciation Days. FCCLA officials, members as well as other AHS students made every AHS staff and faculty members a thank you note to be placed in their mailbox. FCCLA also presented them with the sweet treat in keeping to the theme for the week.
