Gerald Allison Mitchell of Andalusia died on April 4, 2023. Mitchell was an affectionate husband of the woman he married, Gayle Mitchell for more than 60 years. He has four children that will mourn him deeply: Brook Mitchell, Allison Goodson (Howie), Jenna Hall (Harry) as well as Hayden Bell (Fletcher).
Mitchell was predeceased by his father Allison Long Mitchell, as well as his mother, Vernon Laseter Mitchell.
He also has eight grandsons: Lee Gates (Kristen), Kaitlin Mitchell, Mary Grant Hall, Preston Hall, Mitchell Barbaree, Grayson Barbaree, Luke Bell and Mike Bell.
He was extremely proud of the work he did and gave 100% when his name was affixed to the job. He was a 50-year veteran of working in the business of food brokerage and spent the final years prior to retirement with Southern Food Brokers.
Gerald is a lifelong citizen from Covington County, loved and appreciated the simplest things in life , such as volunteering with the Love Thy Neighborhood Ministry at church, as serving as a deacon or Elder and Trustee in the garden, sharing time with others, playing with his friends fishing, or watching the latest football match, but most importantly enjoying time spent with his loved ones.
Funeral arrangements will take place on scheduled for Friday, April 7 with a visitation starting in the morning at 10:30 a.m. and the funeral service following with a service at 11:00 a.m. on the First Presbyterian Church in Andalusia with the Reverend Dr. Tim Trent officiating. Burial will take place with a burial at Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.
