Tom Holmes of Mobile has announced his candidacy for Democratic nomination to District 1 of the U.S. House of Representatives District 1 in 2024. Democratic Primary scheduled for on March 5, 2024.

District 1 of the Congressional Congress consists from all or parts of 9 Alabama counties, including Baldwin, Coffee, Covington, Dale, Escambia, Geneva, Henry, Houston and Mobile.
Holmes is a native of Mobile and a resident of Mobile Holmes, completed an extensive 22-plus years of public service and leadership with the Alabama the state’s government during 2001. He served two times in the office the Governor Fob James.
In 2014, he resigned from The Arc of Alabama after 13 years of service as an advocate and leader for people suffering from intellectual and developmental disabilities as well as their families at the state, local as well as federal level. In November of 2019, Holmes organized The Arc of Mobile County, Inc. which is a local advocacy group for those who have developmental and intellectual disabilities as well as their family members within Mobile County, and currently is the The Board President. Holmes is an Eagle Scout and longtime Scout leader, he is currently serving as an Troop Committee member and treasurer for BSA Troop 3 in Mobile. In addition, he’s a part in the Cottage Hill Civitan Club and Alabama Arise.
Holmes is an orthodox Christian and attends Trinity Episcopal Church, where Holmes is a an ordained priest and a lay eucharistic minister. In 2023, he was ordained as a lay minister in the Episcopal Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast. A graduate of Mobile County Public Schools, He graduated from Murphy High School, Mobile College (now University of Mobile) as well as Jacksonville State University (Alabama). He also pursued a postgraduate degree on public administration in Auburn University.
“I believe it’s the right time to change the leadership of the United States House of Representatives. In my honor I will try my best to fulfill my obligation toward God and to my home country.” Holmes said. “I will stand up for working families, equal opportunities for all, and for justice for everyone. With my leadership and people skills, I will pay attention to all of my constituents and try to help our federal government more flexible to their demands. I will collaborate alongside Alabama Congressional representatives to determine the issues and challenges within our federal government that affect Alabama families, and to build consensus for the development and implementation of solutions.”
Holmes believes that Congressmen should collaborate across the state.
“I believe that the members from the Alabama Congressional delegation have the ability to collaborate across political boundaries as well as other barriers to come up with solutions and solve our national and state issues in the public interests and for the common good. I am confident that I will completely represent the needs of all residents in House of Representatives District 1. I will run an honest and open campaign for this position and I would like to ask everyone in House District 1 to vote for my candidacy,” he said.
He is seeking support from the public through three different ways.
“I would like your prayers for my campaign my campaign, my campaign, our state and our nation Prepare to vote for me, and invite your friends and family to vote for me as well and help me by displaying campaign materials, such as posters or by taking part in the campaign, and making personal contributions to the campaign in any amount and urging others to join in the same. I am looking forward to an active and optimistic campaign” Holmes said.
