It is with great sadness that we announce the death of James J. Henley Sr. A beloved brother, son father, husband uncle, friend, and father on the 13th of July, 2023. James Henley was born the month of April 1942, to Lillie Belle Mancil, and Cumbie Booker. Booker. He was eventually adopted by J. Sam Henley and Lillie when they got married. James was the oldest of four siblings, with sisters Brenda Henley Heatherly, Janet Henley Hopkins Scofield as well as Wynette Henley Seaman.

James was an alumni of W.S. Neal High School and Southern Union Junior College in the area where James excelled at basketball as well as baseball. His extraordinary abilities earned him a dual sport scholarship that highlighted his skills at both. After graduating, James was hired at Monsanto close to Pensacola, Florida, where he found the most important person in his life, Carol Ann Waldrop. They were married in summer of 1963. They had an amazing time together, having three children, as well as numerous pets.
In addition to his loving wife Carol, James is survived by three children: Rebekah Lyn Henley Holland James J. Henley Jr., Christopher Jason Henley as well as their spouses, and their grandchildren Ruby Rain Henley, and Ella June Henley.
James was a committed and hardworking person that led to his success in the field. However, beyond his accomplishments it was his positive character and generous heart that made him unique. He greeted everyone with a smile and was a compassionate listener, always providing assistance to those who were struggling. He was able to help people feel appreciated and valued made him a true gift to everyone who had the pleasure of being around him. His unruly smile and sweet remarks of support were his trademark and made every meeting with him an unforgettable one.
In addition, James a loving family man, and a close friend to many, James also had a love for golf, baseball, and gardening. The gardening abilities of James began when he was a kid and worked on the cotton farm of his family. He was aware of the value of perseverance and hard work and enjoyed the peace that gardening and golf offered him.
James J. Henley Sr. will be greatly missed but will be remembered fondly for his quiet but powerful presence and his simple philosophy…treat others the way you’d like to be treated. This was proven over and over again with the multitude of people he touched. Let his influence remain in the minds and hearts of all those who had the privilege of having him as a friend.
