The Mr. James Lewis Carpenter Sr. was born on Oct. 19 19, 1939, in Chillicothe, Ohio, to Rotheb and Sylvia E. Carpenter. He died on Dec. 25th, 2023, in The Andalusia Manor at the age of 84.

He was as a mechanic in the Army as a mechanic later was discharged with honor due to a tank issue and he was afflicted with an injury to his back. In the following years, he relocated back to Florida where he found the love of his life, Shirley Carpenter, and together they relocated in Andalusia where they settled down and started a family.

He began working alongside the Mr. Walter Moore of Andalusia Roofing Company Then afterward, he branched out to create James Carpenter Roofing, where he had a profound impact on the lives of a lot of people including his grandchildren and children.

He taught them work ethic and a trade that isn’t widely known in the present. There was no time when you could travel on the roads with him and not claim that I raked the roof of that building or that house.

His children survive him, Frank as well as Wanda Carpenter of Dozier, James Jr and Charity Carpenter of River Falls, Anthony Carpenter of Red Level, Timothy and Amber Carpenter of Dozier, Rebecca Carpenter of Andalusia, Jeffery Carpenter of Red Level and Sylvia and Joe Buckman of Red Level 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Russell Carpenter and Herbie Carpenter from Chillicothe, Ohio; many nieces and nephews, as well as a variety of family members and friends.

The deceased was preceded by his wife in his life Shirley Carpenter; his parents; siblings and brothers as well as a grandson Jonathan Evan Carpenter, and grandchildren Skyler Ray, and Scarlett Mae Carpenter.

Funeral services to honor Carpenter’s funeral. Carpenter will be held on Dec. 29 11 a.m. in the Foreman Funeral Home. The Reverend Gary Holloway will officiate. The burial will take place in the Old Bethesda Cemetery. The body was laid to rest Thursday evening, 6 p.m. The funeral was held at Foreman Funeral Home.
