Janet Tryon
Janet’s story was shaped by her kindness and love. Janet was a person of heart who was full of kindness and a heart that was a blessing to the lives of many all kinds of animals, both furry and human. Her commitment to the well-being of other people was not only an interest, but also a necessity. She was a tireless volunteer in the extracurricular activities of her children as well as in the Pensacola Humane Society and the Pensacola Beach Yacht Club, her favorite events being “Barktoberfest” and an annual Preemie Cup Regatta, which aids the Ascension Holy Heart’s Studer family Children’s Hospital. She also devoted numerous hours in bringing the entire community together for fun, such as organizing social gatherings, belonging to a mystic society with other social associations as well as being an early part of the Harlequin Club of Andalusia, Alabama. Her influence on four and two-legged companions will be forever remembered.
In addition to her dedication to the community, Janet was a dedicated student. Janet graduated at Andalusia High School. This was where her passion for knowledge started. She continued her education through Troy University and earned both Masters and Specialist degrees in Early and Elementary Childhood education from Auburn University at Montgomery. She taught kindergarten as well as other classes in the lower elementary school until she moved into administration of elementary schools and administration, both in Alabama as well as Florida and retired. She was unable to play as many bridge games in the following years, so she took on a retirement role as a member of the Small Business Administration, traveling across emergency-declared areas to assist small businesses in getting back on track. She never let a single day in these new areas pass without a visit to museums or other sites to gain a deeper understanding of the locals and their culture. One of her favourite phrases was “You discover something new every daily,” and she lived by it with all her heart.
Janet remains with 2 children as well as their families, daughter Holly Tunnell Alves, her husband, Shawn, and their sons, Joseph and Will of Daphne, Alabama; and her son Trey Tunnell, his wife, Ginny, and their daughters, Lily and Emmie, from Roswell, Georgia, all of whom she loved beyond words and her brother-in-law, Robert Maxfield, of Abingdon Beach, Maryland; and nephew, Michael Maxfield, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
She is survived by her parents Lowell Excell Huggins and Truman and Johnnie Lou Holladay Southwell, as well as her sibling, Rebecca Huggins Maxfield. We’re certain Mom was welcomed by a whole pack that included dogs on The Rainbow Bridge, and it was quite a celebration. We are hoping she brought plenty of treats. What are we talking about Sure, she did.
A memorial service to commemorate Janet’s passing will be held on Monday, August 28 2023, beginning at 11 a.m. on the premises of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church 1, St. Francis Drive, in Gulf Breeze, Florida, with a visitation starting with a 10 a.m. followed by there will be a reception following. Funeral services will be held on the 28th of October 2023, in the Magnolia Cemetery in Andalusia with an after-party in the Andalusia Country Club.
