Janie S. Brown, age 83, passed away peacefully in her home at Andalusia, Alabama, on November. 5th of 2023. She died in the company of her beloved family.

Janie was born in Bolinger, Alabama, on December. 15 1939 she was the daughter of Johnnie Thomas and Flora Bell Smith. Janie was born in Millry, Alabama, and went to Millry High School. After graduation, she returned to her school and was an assistant to a teacher for over 25 years.
Janie was the mother of Tracey, Terry, Tony, Tammy, and Trina. They were all raised by her with loving affection in Millry together with her husband Z.N. “Chuck” Brown. Janie was preceded in death by her husband in January 2022.
Her family includes her beloved kids: Tracey (Andalusia), Terry (Petaluma, California), Tony (Andalusia), Tammy (Albuquerque, New Mexico), Trina (Waynesboro, Mississippi) in addition to the nine grandkids: Thomas and Timothy (Tracey), Chelsea and Jesse (Tammy), Nataleigh and Addison (Tony), Paul, Christian and Cahel (Trina) and seven great-grandchildren: Spencer (Chelsea), Tyler, Tristian, Taylor and Trey (Thomas) and Caiden and Tanner (Paul).
Janie had two wonderful siblings Peggy Dickey (Andalusia) and Jo Ann Reins (The Villages, Florida). Janie was preceded in death by her parents (Johnnie Thomas and Flora Bell Smith).
Janie was a voracious reader, and never left without an e-book in her hands. She particularly enjoyed mysteries. She loved traveling and enjoyed watching movies, music as well as attending live performances. The couple was married to a football trainer for more than 66 years, Janie was a fan of sports and especially enjoyed her Alabama Crimson Tide and New Orleans Saints football teams. The most beloved player is Archie Manning. Her top song is Lee Ann Womack’s “I Hope You Dance” as she believed the lyrics very meaningful and a appropriate anthem to live a full life. Janie’s smile, charm and sense of humor brought joy to any moment. She was a generous host and home not just to her numerous grandchildren, children and great-grandchildren, but also to the loved ones of all her children throughout the many years. She was awed by laughter.
The loss of a mother is one of the most painful sadnesses that one can feel and her absence will be deeply missed.
The family would like to express our sincere gratitude for the care provided by nurses from Aveanna Hospice and to the Ascension Sacred Heart Cancer Care Center located in Andalusia.
The family will be able to honor their mother during an intimate ceremony.
