The LBW Community College Adult Education program and the service area military recruiters are collaborating to equip students and recruits with the necessary education and necessary to join the military force.

The group of seven students has improved their capabilities in math, digital literacy sciences, ability to take tests.

“Most students who are enrolled in adult education to obtain the GED in order to be enlisted or improve their overall score in the ASVAB test which is the military’s entrance exam,” said LBWCC Adult Education Instructor/United States Airforce Veterans Jennifer Nevins.

Students who are recruited take a Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) that identifies the areas they must focus on.

“We make use of ASVAB study materials and virtual programs to help students improve their academic functioning overall which, in most cases, increases their ASVAB scores,” Nevins said. “One student who was a recruit increased his ASVAB score to 43 points following six weeks of the LBWCC Adult Education program. It’s quite amazing,” Andalusia Recruiting Station Army Recruiter Staff Sergeant. Phillip Adams added.

Army National Guard recruiter Sgt. Adriana Williams from Greenville is in turn referring students for the training program.

“This is a great chance for students who are interested in attending LBWCC to pursue the associate’s degree. Being a part of the National Guard allows the participant to earn college tuition as well as being able to live and attend school in the local area,” said Sgt. Williams.

Air Force recruiters from Crestview, Florida, and Marine recruiters from Dothan, Alabama, cover the Covington County region and collaborate to assist students who are looking for recruits.

“I always recommend students seeking getting their GED towards LBW Community College,” Dothan Marine Corps Recruiting Staff Sergeant. Edward Tanner said.

Anyone who would like to take part in the program must be enrolled for the LBWCC Adult Education program, pursuing the GED or high school diplomas. Students do not have to reach out to a recruiter for the military to register for the program.
