two LBW Community College students recently were awarded prestigious honors in Birmingham for their outstanding academic achievements outstanding leadership and volunteerism in the community.
Jordan Freeman of Troy and Jaden Williams of Enterprise were selected as the 2023 Academic All-Alabama Team members of Alabama Community College System. Alabama Community College System.
“Congratulations for these college students on getting this award,” said LBW President Dr. Brock Kelley. “They should be commended for their commitment towards their futures and the College. This is an deserved acknowledgement for both of them. .”
The All-Alabama Academic Team students are nominated by their respective colleges. They must have an average grade point (GPA) in the range of 3.25 as well as be actively involved in activities on campus and complete at least 12 semester hours in the institution.
Jordan Freeman, a mother and wife of a 4-year-old son is completing the Associate of Science degree prior to transferring to pursue the bachelor’s degree in nutrition studies. She hopes to develop into a dietetic.
Freeman was enrolled at LBW in 2021. He stated, “LBW has helped me to excel.”
She likes the smaller classes and the personal attention given by professors.
“I feel more at ease now that I’ve attended LBW,” Freeman said.
With an 3.7 GPA and numerous scholarship opportunities, Freeman added, “I have dreams that I didn’t know I had. All because of the LBW .”
Jaden Williams Jaden Williams, a sophomore athlete with an 4.0 GPA, is planning to complete a bachelor’s program in biomedical science. He hopes to become a clinical researcher.
She is an active participant in the National Honor Society, Compass Club, Student Government Association (SGA) and is the creator of the Common Ground student group.
During her two-year tenure at LBW she was an ambassador for the campus and was a collegiate volleyball team member with the Saints.
“Here at LBW I have developed as a person and as a person” Williams said. “Being an LBW Saint has opened my mind to new opportunities and has allowed me to be extremely involved and serving the community. It has provided me with many opportunities to be a part of the community that have helped me to create a bright way for me to travel. I will always be proud to call myself an Saint !”
Freeman as well as Williams were honoured at a luncheon held in Birmingham on April 14, and will represent LBW Community College on the All-Alabama Academic Team. All students of the colleges in the Alabama Community College System will be honored during the event.
All-Alabama Academic Team recognition program was created in 1995, to supplement the All-USA National Academic Team Program which was sponsored by USA Today, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and The American Association of Community Colleges.
