The head coach Janie Wiggins gave an update on the 2023 season that is coming up. The Saints will begin their campaign by playing a conference game on Thursday on August 24, the Coastal Alabama East in Brewton.

Q What are your goals for the season ahead?

A The team has a talented group of players who will be playing this season. The team has an “will for victory” attitude and an impressive work ethic. When you combine these characteristics with a strong commitment to the cause, it’s impossible to say what this group could accomplish when they work together.

Q How have preseason training gone for your team?

A: We’ve spent these two weeks at two-day sessions, including training, weightlifting, individual skills training, group training and team building exercises.

Q What are the team’s goals for in the coming year?

A: Our goal for the team for this season is realize that they’re stronger when they’re together. Each player brings a unique ability and enthusiasm to the team. This group of players could make history for this particular program. We’ll tackle it one step at an time. The ultimate objective is to become the top squad in our league.

Q Who are the upcoming leaders in this program?

A: Samia Mason, Caroline Bailey, Zationna Horne, Amy Garner and Faith Peters are my sophomores. They’re providing a wonderful example to this group.

Q: Which returning player has made improvements and amazed you the most?

A: I’d say the following: Amy Garner would be my most improved player since when she started her freshman year to her return to school as a sophomore. Her determination, work ethic as well as her leadership skills contribute to these improvements.

Q: Which freshman player has impressed you most? What do you think is her part in the team this season?

A: It’s difficult to pick the best one, they’ve each impressed me in numerous ways. Particularly, Ashland Kelley has stepped into the ropes of a new job and is doing an amazing job. There are a number of talented freshmen who are going to be key contributors to our achievement. Salome De Jesus-De La Torre Elizabeth Bean, Briana Smith as well as Reece Smith are incredible players and are a joy to watch during the season.

Q: As we enter year 3 What do you think the program has advanced?

A: I think that we’ve learned that we have learned that the ACCC is a very competitive conference. It is our responsibility to locate the right people who can join us and help build the team. Our volleyball team has grown every year and this season will be better than the previous. We have a group of players who have invested into the team we’re trying to create. We are determined to stick together in the third year. If we can achieve that it’s possible to do that, then the possibilities are endless.

LBW completed its inaugural campaign in 2021 having a record of 7-21. The Saints increased their record to 20-17, and secured a spot for the Alabama Community College Conference Tournament in 2022.
