This week, Rep. Barry Moore (AL-02) introduced H.R. 3984, the bipartisan bicameral Feral Swine Eradication Act, along with as co-author Rep. Jasmine Crockett (TX- 30).

This law expands this legislation to the Feral Swine Eradication and Control Pilot Program (FSCP). Feral swine can be a major threat to ranchers’, farmers’ and forester’s farms and are responsible for $1.5 billion in damages each year.

The FSCP has had a good number of successes in reducing the damages caused by trapping removal, monitoring and assessing the lands which feral swine are frequently. Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville and Texas Senator John Cornyn introduced S.613, the Senate version of the legislation.

“Feral swine have inflicted millions of dollars of damage on farms across Alabama and are able to ruin the years of hard work put into Alabama’s farms and ranches, as well as forests towards providing food for our nation,” said Moore. “I am in support of Alabama farmers to act against this menace by approving an elimination pilot program that has established results, and with modifications to improve the program.”

“My clients in TX30-35 are paying a hefty price at the local grocery store. Vegetables and fruits are being omitted on the store shelves. Similar to many other issues that we’ve seen over the past 3 years, this problem is in the supply chain and in Texas this supply chain becoming damaged by the plague of feral hogs” declared Rep. Jasmine Crockett (TX-30). “As a top five agricultural exporting country, disruption to Texas farms will have significant impact across the nation. Feral hogs are a invasive species that destroy billions of dollars worth of crops. I am proposing this bill to keep food prices in check and safeguard the rural areas.”
