I told Little Girl to “Come in now”, but she ignored me and continued exploring the backyard. She ran straight towards me, just as I was about to shout at her and stamp my foot. Our routine was set as she entered the house. She received a large towel rub to wash her paws, and dried the fluff from her stomach. She was soaked and had a few leaves stuck to her. She moved around like a show-dog, reminding me of an anonymous saying that I once read: “A dog’s tail can communicate more than his owner’s tongue can in hours.”
When asked how old the sweet little ball of fur I call Little Girl is, I pulled out a file that contained her medical expenses, vaccinations, and grooming costs. It was then that I remembered she had been my companion and friend since 2014. I don’t have any records of her adopting dogs before that. She is not a spring chicken, but she retains her sweet, doggie personality.
A few other words that I came across were “The reason a pet dog has so many friends” and “The reason a cat has so many friends is because he wags instead of his tongue.” Cats and dogs can be great, loving, and amusing companions for humans of all ages. Mark Twain stated this about dogs: “If you take a starving dog home and make him rich, he won’t bite you.” This is the main difference between a man and a dog.” Twain reached this conclusion about how cats and dogs differ. You might be surprised to learn who said the following: “If animals could talk, the dog would be a blundering and outspoken fellow; while the cat would have a rare grace of never speaking a word too often.” Charles de Gaulle, the former president and current president of France, made this observation.
Emily Dickinson said it best: “Dogs are better then human beings because dogs know but don’t tell.”
Have you and I, along with other pet lovers, ever wondered if our beloved pets would be able to go to Heaven? Author Robert Louis Stevenson had no doubts. He believed that dogs would have been there before us. J. Billings, a humorist, said that dogs are the only thing in this world that love you more than they love themselves.
While I love dogs, my friends and family are cat lovers. They may feel a bit like Charles Dickens’s “What greater gift is the love of cats?”
Ending with an anonymous quote: “A dog can heal a broken heart.” Although my heart didn’t need to be mended when Little Girl came along a few years back, she sure warmed it.
