Margaret Genell Jenkins of Springdale, Maryland, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2023. Margaret was born in Dozier, Alabama, on August 30, 1939, to The late Thelma as well as Ina Jones. She was the fourth to four kids. Margaret was a beloved wife, daughter, sister aunt, mother, grandmother and her best friend.

Margaret began her education in County Line Elementary School in Dozier, Alabama, and in 1958, she graduated from high school at Covington County Training School. Covington County Training School in Andalusia, Alabama. She got married James Anderson Jenkins of Andalusia, Alabama, in Washington, D.C. on February. 12th in 1963. The couple was blessed by two girls and 2 grandsons who she loved dearly. She was employed by the Prince George’s County Public School system as an instructor for more than 30 years until she retired in the year 1995.
Margaret was raised within the congregation and maintained a an intimate connection with God. She was a member of the Sargent Memorial Presbyterian Church on November. 5 1974. She became an active and faithful church member. She served as an officer of the church, serving as an ordained Deacon (1986-1989) she was also Trustee (1999-2002) and was a member of the Chancel Choir, participated in the Presbyterian Women organization, and was a part of Sargent Memorial’s Cluster 12.
Margaret’s favourite activities included gardening, traveling cooking, sewing and helping out in the food pantry of her local area. Margaret was a very naturally creative person and you’d always discover her doing something or demonstrating how to do something. Through the years, Margaret and James visited a lot of destinations together. They were always on the road or cruise excursion to somewhere. Margaret loved cooking and was thrilled to give her recipes and delicious meals with friends and family. When you spent time with her you could be sure that you were going to be able to listen to a fascinating story or learn something from her words. In typical Margaret Jenkins fashion, she lived life as she wanted until the very end. She has reunited with her soulmate and husband, James, and will be greatly missed however, she will remain with the love of everyone who she touched.
Her death was preceded by the beloved spouse of over 55 years James Jenkins; parents, Thelma and Ina Jones and brother Lenzie Jones. Her daughters survive her, Felicia and A. Jenkins and Synthia Jenkins; son, Eric. Jenkins; her grandchildren, Braedon Jenkins and C. Jenkins, and Janai Foster; grandchildren, Braedon C. Jenkins and Janai. Foster; her sisters, Annie Alexander and Angeline Neely; a host of nieces and nephews; as well as numerous others relatives and acquaintances.
