Meredith’s Miracles has unveiled tryout dates for the 18th season of its community-based annual hit Cookies with Characters during the final weekend of February.

Tests will be held on the following days: Tuesday, Jan. 9 on Thursday Jan. 11 on Tuesday January. 16 and Thursday January. 18, starting at 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Each day. Auditions are open for those in the 8th grade and up, as well as colleges students too are welcome. The participants only need to show up for only one audition date. The auditions for fill-ins will be held on the Monday, January. 22 and Tuesday, January. 23 from 5 until seven p.m. with a limited number of spots available. The auditions will take place in Meredith’s Miracles located at 408 South Three Notch Street in Andalusia.

“I would love for any pupil from the 8th grade or higher to play the role of a character. We will have the most amazing time playing around the set. It’s a chance to give back to your community by aiding us in our efforts. If a spot on a character show does not appeal for you then we’ll need volunteers to assist on that day. There will be an opportunity for you to sign up during tryouts where you can register to volunteer. We’re looking for over 300 people for the event to be involved which is why we have many jobs available,” said Meredith’s Miracles Executive Director/Cookies with Characters Coordinator Kiley Spears.

The event this year will be held on the weekend of Saturday on Feb. 24 and Sunday, February. 25, at the Covington Center Arena and Kiwanis Building. Doors be open for the first Saturday’s performance at 11:00 a.m. and the show will be being scheduled from noon until 2:30 p.m. The second show on Saturday will open from 4 p.m. and the show scheduled from 5 until 7 p.m. Doors open on Sunday around 2 p.m. and the show will be scheduled from 3 to 5:30 p.m.

Tickets for general admission are $10 per show and seats with preferred seating are $15 per ticket. Tickets may be purchased online at meredithsevents.square.site/.

“Tryouts are held on a “come-and-go” basis. Please be patient since we may be overcrowded. We will try to audition quickly as we can. Please ensure that you’re in the same location for both days of the event. It is essential to be present all day Saturday and between 1 and 6 p.m. on Sunday.”

There will be more than 90 characters on stage as well as an opportunity to meet and greet souvenir, photo opportunities, souvenirs with the characters, jumpy houses, and much more. The characters who have been in the past are not required to be auditioned, however they must contact or message Spears to request the same character.

“That doesn’t mean you’ll get the role, but it does signify that you’ll be included on an audition schedule for the role. It’s always helpful for us for us to observe you as you wear various costumes. If you’d like to audition for more than one role we would like you to attend auditions. Auditions are relaxed therefore don’t feel worried. We just want to see your character and the way you dress in your costumes. We require your help to make Cookies with Characters possible and we have more than 90 costumes and more than 150 slots available,” she said.

Cookies with Characters is the largest fundraising event for Meredith’s Miracles which is an 501(c)(3) non-profit group that specializes in helping families from 27 Alabama counties with travel costs in medical emergencies.
