Mizell Memorial Hospital in Opp announced that Dr. Sean Owen (a specialist in ortho surgery) opened the Mizell Orthopedic Center Dec. 22, 2022 on the second floor at Mizell Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Owen graduated from the University of California at Davis in Molecular Biology with a Bachelor of Science. He was an undergraduate and was offered a spot on the UC Davis football squad. He sustained a shoulder injury that ended his career as a lineman for the team. Later, he would choose to specialize in orthopedic surgery.
After completing his medical school training at Drexler University College of Medicine, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was accepted into an orthopedic surgery residency at St. Louis University, St. Louis, Missouri. He continued his training by completing a highly coveted fellowship in Orthopedic Trauma at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Chattanooga.
After finishing his education, he founded Redwood Skeletal Trauma Clinic in Humbolt County, northern California. He worked there for 10 years.
Dr. Owen and Dana moved back to Mobile in 2022 in order to be near their family and to pursue an MBA at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
Dr. Owen is an avid motorcycle enthusiast. Dr. Owen has ridden his motorcycles across four countries, in 49 states, and has traveled across the United States five times.

On Friday, January 20, Mizell Memorial Hospital will host a grand opening of the Mizell Orthopedic Center. It will take place in the lobby. You are invited to visit Dr. Owen’s office and to enjoy refreshments.
