This year, the National Day of Prayer will be celebrated in May 4. The annual celebration, which takes place on the fourth Thursday of May is an opportunity for everyone of any faith to pray for the nation.

In general, more than 60 000 communities organize events to encourage participants to gather to pray. Prayer time has been scheduled to take place at 12 noon in the Court Square in Andalusia. People are also urged to keep praying throughout the day.

The theme for this year is “Pray for righteousness with conviction,” based on James 5:16b (NKJV) that reads, “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous person is very beneficial.” What are the reasons to prayer for America? Prayer is the only way to bring about revival in our country.

“God is sovereign, and He never surprises us. to Him. When we are faced with fluctuating economy, threats from the outside and domestic unrest or any other threatening situations Our Heavenly Father is not in a state of shock. Through prayer, we can to draw on His power, wisdom, strength and peace. He is ready to attend to our prayers when we ask God for intervention in the affairs of mankind,” according to the National Day of Prayer Task Force website.

Prayer is encouraged for the government of our country at all levels – state, federal, and local – including our media, military as well as for education, churches and families. You will find scriptures to read to guide your prayer at www.nationaldayofprayer.org. NDP Task Force President, Kathy Branzell, has said, “Unprecedented times call for unimaginable prayer!”

On Thursday night on May 4 from 7. p.m. CST The National Prayer Gathering held at the Museum of the Bible in Washington D.C. will be broadcast via the NDP website, as well as the NDP facebook page and on Christian radio and on television. 10 Christian leaders will be in attendance, with Tony Evans, Frances Chan, Jack Graham, and U.S. Senate Chaplain Barry Black as well as others.

It is believed that the National Day of Prayer was established in 1952 through a joint resolution of United States Congress which was adopted in the administration of the President Harry S. Truman. Each President since 1952 has issued an National Day of Prayer proclamation in the past, and there have been more than 150 national calls to prayers, fasting, humiliation and apologies to The President of the United States (1789-2020).

For example, in 1883 the president Abraham Lincoln declared a national day of fasting and prayer. In 1883, President Franklin Roosevelt led the nation in prayer on D-Day 6 June 1944 , “Almighty God Our sons, proud of this nation on this day is the beginning of an enormous undertaking to defend our Republic and our religion, as well as our culture, and to liberate a suffering humanity …”

S.D. Gordon S.D. Gordon, an American writer of devotional books has once stated “The most important thing that anyone can do to serve God and man is pray.” “More than anything else happen accomplished through prayer than this world can imagine,” Alfred Lord Tennyson has written.
