Pleasant Home scored six rushing touchdowns, and started this season by winning a victory of 42-16 against A.L. Johnson at home on Friday night.
PHS the head coach Cody Sellers thought his team did many things right.
“We had a sound assignment at the beginning of our time with our older children and I’m very happy about this. Our method became a bit messy when we started to introduce the younger children. It was too much for us, but as a team of coaches need to prepare them. I’m extremely proud of them for their effort and character and believe we did everyone proud. We’ll be playing a big game to be prepared for in the next two weeks, which will open regional playing,” Sellers said.
After A.L. Johnson had gone three and out, Pleasant Home took over at the 43-yard-line of their opponent. Jacob Bryan began the drive with a 14-yard gain to earn an initial down. DaMarrion Parker concluded the 7-play drive with a six-yard touchdown run. The goal-line failed, and the team was left with the score at 6-0.
Bubba Helms recovered a fumble during the kickoff, setting up the following PHS score. Bryan scored from just 24 yards with only a minute left in the opening quarter. Parker scored a two-point touchdown, giving ALJ an 14-0 lead. ALJ was able to establish the best field position after an impressive kickoff return. Despite a 11-yard run the drive was brought at an end.
A.L. Johnson scored two first downs prior to the time that the first quarter was over. Pleasant Home took over in the second half and witnessed Nathan Hobbs gain a first down by running 16 yards. Talan Worley scored a 30 yard touchdown run as well as Vance Kelley added the PAT to give the team a lead of 21-0. ALJ was able to turn the ball over when Parker scores from 50 yards. Kelley’s penalty kick increased the PHS lead to a 28-0.
After a three-and-out Bryan scored the 55-yard touchdown to give an impressive 35-0 lead at halftime. Despite the kickoff’s 55-yard return by Bryan an errant fumble allowed A.L. Johnson to score with an 18-yard touchdown jog and two-point conversion. Pleasant Home led 35-8 at the conclusion of three.
Bryan ran toward the end line at 59 yards Kelley’s fourth PAT put an score of 42-8. ALJ was able to recover a fumble and score the touchdown, and added PHS backups on the field and added on a second two-point conversion.
Pleasant Home is off next week, but the region will games at home against Red Level on Friday, September. 8.
