ReAct Theatre and Arts has announced auditions for their performance in the month of March “Willie Wonka: The Musical” scheduled for October. 15th 16th, 16th and 17th.
The show, scheduled to run from March 15 to 17 at the Dixon Center for the Performing Arts located on the campus at LBW is comprised of 14 spoken parts as well as expected to have at least 40 children who will be part of the chorus, the director Cathy Powell said.
“It may seem a bit unsuitable to be auditioning for a March show,” Powell said. “But the kids who will be performing as Oompahs will be in the Andalusia Christmas parade, and also performing on stage during Christmas during Candyland.”
Willie Wonka tells the story of a famous candyman and his search for an his heir. The musical includes classic tunes such as “The Candy Man.”
Auditions are established according to:
- For students who are in the 3rd to 5th grade auditions will take place on Sunday, October. 15 between 2 and 3 p.m. in the Andalusia the gym at the elementary school.
- For students in grades 6-12 auditions will be held on Tuesday, October. 16 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Church Street Cultural Arts Center
- Adult auditions will take place on Tuesday, October. 17, at 6:30 p.m. at the Church Street Cultural Arts Center
ReAct was formed in 2022 in order to produce the first local-language play, “Women of the Jury,” written by Andalusia native Marianne Merrill Weber. ReAct also created an outdoor mural at the end of summer 2022. They also presented an art exhibition and lecture series highlighting Shiney Moon’s work Shiney Moon and produced “Charlotte’s web.” Since then the board has been established and is currently seeking 501(c)3 designation for ReAct.
