ReAct Theatre and Arts has set a date for a community event on the 14th of August for all interested in working behind in the production of its 2023-24-year plan of work.
ReAct president and founder Roger Powell said the group was founded in 2022 and will release four pieces in the coming year.

“Tales From the Tomb” is a walk in the evening across Magnolia Cemetery designed to introduce participants to those characters of Andalusia’s history. The date is October. 7. Auditions will begin at 6:30 p.m. the 21st of August, Monday in The Church Street Cultural Arts Centre. The expected number of roles is eight to twelve speaking roles.
- “Willy Wonka, the Musical” is scheduled for March 15-17. The musical features 14 parts that speak as well as is anticipated to feature at least 40 kids as part of the cast. Auditions are scheduled for beginning of the fall, and the children who will be chosen to play Oompahs will be part of the Andalusia Christmas parade as well as on stage during Christmas in Candyland. Cathy Powell will direct this production.
- ReAct’s Mural Walk A walking tour that aims to tell the story behind the murals that are located in the city of Andalusia. It is scheduled for a Saturday in spring.
- “Love Loss, Love as well as What I Wore,” a humorous drama written on the work of Nora And Delia Ephron, based on the novel written of Ilene Beckerman. The cast consists of between five and 10 women. ReAct is planning to stage performances across each Andalusia in Opp which is likely to be in the spring of 2024.
Powell explained that there is plenty of preparation work needed for the four events that is the goal of the community event.
“We are building sets for Willy Wonka and will require help with costumes, as well as with the supervision of the children who are part of the group,” he said. Other tasks can range from creating luminaries for the cemetery walk, to managing the “candy retail store” to support Willy Wonka productions.
ReAct was formed in 2022 to stage the first local-language play, “Women of the Jury,” written by Andalusia native Marianne Merrill Weber. The group also staged an outdoor mural at the end of summer 2022 and put on “Charlotte’s Web.” .”
Since then an advisory board has been established and is currently seeking 501(c)3 status for ReAct.
The meeting for the community is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. on the 14th of August on Monday in the auditorium at Andalusia City Hall. The meeting is not mandatory for those who are interested in auditioning for role to be present.
