Red Level’s varsity basketball schedule was opened with two wins against McKenzie at home. Red Level also recognized Elizabeth Cross for achieving 1,000 career points on Thursday night.

Varsity Girls Red Level 55, McKenzie28Red Level. The team found its rhythm from the beginning and defeated McKenzie 55-28 in an at-home varsity girls’ competition.

Mariah Crowell had 10 points in the opening period, which was a record for her from the floor. Cross scored five points, Kaitlyn Beverly added four, and RLS held a 19-5 advantage after one. Charisa Bullard scored three points in the first eight minutes, while Alyson Brooks got two. Cross added five points in the second. Summer Beverly converted two free throws, while Miracle Wright was one-of-3 from the foul line. MHS received seven free throws from Trenady, but was trailing 29-12 at the halftime.

Alyha Robertson was the leader with six points in third. K. Beverly scored two baskets while Cross, Crowell and S. Beverly each had two. Sarrenati Davison made two field goals, while the Lady Tigers led by 45-21 after three. Cross and S. Beverly closed the game with four points each, while Elizabeth Carroll etched her place in the scoring column by scoring a field goal. In the fourth, Pierce scored four points for the Lady Tigers.

Red Level’s Cross was the star with 16 points, a record for Red Level. Crowell and K. Beverly finished in double figures, with 12 and 10 points each. S. Beverly scored eight points in the win. McKenzie’s top scorer was Pierce with 10 points.

Varsity Boys: Red Level 65, McKenzie 58

Red Level beat McKenzie to win the area. Red Level also won Thursday’s varsity boys’ game 65-58 at home.

In the first period, Javen Poindexter scored four baskets. Treshon Lane, Caleb Padgett and Malikye Wright each scored three points as the host Tigers led 17-13 after one. Jay Jackson scored eight points for the visiting Tigers in the opening period. Poindexter added six more points in the second period, while Dominic Williams Jr. added five to his total and led RLS to an impressive 28-23 advantage at halftime. Jaylen McMillian scored four and Jackson had four for MHS.

Poindexter was on fire after the break, scoring 10 points and making two three-pointers. Red Level led 46-42 after three when Walker Simmons scored two. Jackson converted five more points and went three-of-4 at the line. Both teams won the final period with 35 points. Wright and Poindexter combined for 19 RLS points. McMillian scored 10 points in the fourth quarter for MHS, followed by Jackson with three. Kamern Danis also scored a basket in eight minutes.

The host Tigers won with 37 points from Poindexter. Wright contributed eight points, and Lane had six. McMillan was next at 19, followed by Jackson, who led the visiting Tigers with 26 points.

Both teams will be back on the court Tuesday, January 10, with contests in the area against Georgiana.
