Red Level put forth a valiant effort at the boys’ championship of Richard Robertson’s 56th Annual Andalusia Holiday Tournament, but fell just short of Hillcrest-Evergreen Saturday.

With a win of 68 to 59 over the Tigers, the Jaguars claimed their third consecutive tournament title. Red Level started the game strong and scored 12 points in the first half. Javen Poindexter scored five points and Caleb Padgett had a three. Tony Veasey and Malikye Wright each scored a basket to give Hillcrest a 12-9 lead. Hillcrest was represented by five different players in the first frame.

The Jaguars scored 26 points in their second quarter and led 35-27 at halftime. Trey Simpson scored nine points, followed by Jacob Bradley with eight. Poindexter added 12 points to his total by scoring two more baskets. He also went six-of-8 from the foul line. The Tigers’ second period was completed by Wright and Padgett with three free throws.

Both offenses scored in the third period. RLS reduced its deficit to five by scoring 15 points. Wright and Poindexter combined scored 13 points. Bradley scored seven points for HHS, which maintained a 47-42 advantage going into the fourth quarter.

The final period was wild with many ties and lead changes. With four minutes left, the Tigers held a 53-51 advantage. At the two-minute mark, the Jaguars took a lead of 60-55 before pulling away to win. Poindexter finished the final frame with 10 points. Wright converted two field goals and Walker Simmons made a free throw. Monte Stallworth was six of six from the line, and added a bucket.

Red Level was led by Poindexter with 33 points. Wright had 14. Padgett was the loser with eight points. Hillcrest was led by Stallworth with 16 points. Bradley and Simpson had double figures with 15, and 11 respectively.

Kaevon Miles, Tyler Sigers, Andalusia, Tyler Mallory (Greenville), Poindexter, Wright, Bradley and Stallworth made up the all-tournament squad, which earned them MVP honors.

Red Level will travel to Straughn to play a tripleheader that begins at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 15. The JV boys will play first, followed by the varsity boys and girls.
