Red Level School sophomore Miracle Wright received a proclamation from the Covington County Commission and was acknowledged as the state champion for the past three years. She was awarded the title through overcoming greater challenges at an early stage in her life.
Dist. 4. Commissioner Tommy McGaha presented the proclamation to Wright for her track achievements and accomplishments at the River Falls town council meeting in July.
“I am very satisfied with Miracle for her accomplishments over the three years she has competed on the Red Level. It has been an absolute pleasure to watch and has represented her school and her community extremely effectively. The commission is delighted to publicly praise her for her efforts and make this announcement an expression of appreciation of the commission and all of our citizens for her achievements. We wish her the best of luck in the future,” McGaha said.
Her achievements includes winning the 100-meter race for three straight years, and also a member of the relay team 4×100 meters which won the state championship two years earlier. She finished second in the state championships in the 200-meter race as an eighth and seventh grader prior to winning the event as a freshman.
Despite all her accomplishments on the track, Miracle could not walk as a child and has had to overcome numerous physical hurdles throughout her life.
“Miracle Miracle was delivered prematurely around 14 weeks early, and was weighing just 2 pounds when her birth. She was revived when she was born, and we wanted to give her the name Isabella but decided to name Miracle. Miracle instead. She was a slow walking at a young age also. As a mother of a child in the moment, this was very frightening and traumatic experience. Every time I watch her run, I am reminded of my mother,” her mother Pinka Shine told her.
Pinka remembered an appointment for physical therapy when she was informed of her daughter’s slow motor skills.
“The doctor informed us that she wanted braces over her leg to help straighten them since her feet were severely turned. They were turned outwards. As young children, she could not turn her feet to the inside. Her feet were tiny and tiny. The doctor informed us that braces would be the sole method she could walk. The mother of my children Alberta Shine didn’t play about my children and informed that braces by the doctor were not being used on any of my children. The old adage of rubbing a dishrag on the knees of a baby to help them walk. She did it every day in her recliner. Yes, even with no braces Miracle began walking when she was just 3 years old. She fought through the challenges through faith in God and my mommy.”
Pinka always knew that Miracle was fast, but did not think she’d reach the speed that she had reached.
“Her strength as well as her speed and determination are mind-blowing for me. Before she even thought about taking up track there were two coach who noticed her potential right from the beginning. Coach Ingram would say, “You’re going to run for me. He would say, “Mr. Steve would say there’s my state champion even before she started winning titles. Check out the place where Miracle began and where she is now. I can’t think of a better way to express appreciation and congratulate her on her tireless efforts,” she said.
The support of the school and community is an enormous amount for both her parents and family.
“It is so heart-warming. I could be at Walmart and I will have people say they’ll attend to my daughter. People will see Miracle and ask her if she’s the state champ. The staff and parents at the school are there to help me take her to and from the practice while I’m at work. They keep an eye on her and the overwhelming support is something I am grateful for. Although I am extremely grateful for the love and support of all of you My family is always our main family of support. The dad I have, Clifford Ball never misses a beat. He’s 70 and still manages to check on his little girl. If my mom was still living here, she would be doing exactly the same. We are also aided with an ardent prayer by apostle Delphine Lee from the Life and Godliness Center and Pastor Tremayne Benson of the New Pilgrim Baptist Church,” Pinka said.
As a Christian, Pinka encourages everyone to concentrate only on God and not the obstacles that stand in their way.
“Life will be filled with a myriad of challenges. Miracle was delayed in his development and wasn’t meant to walk. When God is involved there is no limit. She went from being developmentally delayed to a three-time state champion. Romans 8:28 explains”Delayed, but not ruled out. According to His words”Running Miracle” was born, albeit it was delayed. It is now a state champion,” she said.
Miracle was the baby of Pinka Shine and Jamie Wright.
