Sammy Joe Dozier, age 90, who lived in his home in the Dozier as well as Rose Hill communities, passed in his sleep on the 20th of September. 20, 2023.

The funeral will take place on the Saturday of September. 23 between 6 and 8 p.m. in the Foreman’s funeral home located in Andalusia. The additional visitation will take place 1 hour in advance of the funeral service at Mt. Gilead.
Funeral ceremonies will be conducted for Dozier on. Dozier Sunday, Sept. 24, at 2 p.m. The service will be held at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church with Brother Eugene Meadows officiating with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
The Mr. Dozier was a United States Air Force Retiree and the son of a Korean War veteran, and an American Civil Service retiree. He was a DJ on WOPP, WAAO, and manager at WAMI radio stations. Sam enjoyed his home country, and served with great honor. Sam was ordained as Deacon at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church and actively was a member until ill health prevented him from doing so.
The couple is survived by their wife, Mary Jo, of Rose Hill; one son, Grant Dozier, three daughters, Hannah (Tom) Moore of Rose Hill; Sallie Dozier from Dothan as well as Ann Dozier, of Canton, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Jeremy (Tina) Moore from Fort Hood, Texas; Sam Moore of Rose Hill; Julie Moore of Andalusia; Ashley (Calen) Denmark of Cochran, Georgia; Courtney (Michael) Lechner, of Evans, Georgia; Autumn (Rachael) Trammell of Andalusia as well as Bronwyn (Tristan) Petrey, from Andalusia and seven great-grandchildren One sister Addison M. Dozier, and a host of cousins.
Dozier is predeceased by his father Walter Dozier, and mother, Lucille Pendry; a sister, Erma J. Dozier and four brothers Tommy Dozier, Reginald Dozier, Byron Dozier, and Noel Dozier.
Pallbearers are Tim Grimes, Wyatt Sasser, Jeff Bailey, Donnie Tillman, David Barton, and Gary Moore.
Flowers will be accepted, or donations can be donated for the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church to build a building in honor of Sammy J. Dozier.
