South Alabama Regional Airport South Alabama Regional Airport honored two board members as well as an employee with a long-standing relationship at its regular board meeting on Wednesday 7 June.

Mike Holloway has served SARA as a board member for over 22 years. The board was created by the city of Andalusia, in the year 2000.

“Mike Holloway embodies every quality of goodness that you could imagine. He has been a role model of our airport as well as a strong pillar in our community for a long time from his days in Andalusia Health to the numerous hours of community service that he’s offered. The airport has seen remarkable growth under Mike’s direction. The Mayor Earl Johnson could not have selected a better candidate for this post. You’ve been a fantastic role model and an asset for the airport.” SARA Executive Director Jed Blackwell said.

Gary Smith has served SARA as director for the last 17 years, and for the past 14 years, he was the chairman of the board. Smith was appointed by the municipalities of Andalusia and Opp and Covington County Commission. Covington County Commission.

“Gary Smith has guided the airport through a number of difficult times. He joined us at the midst of a major change for us. Under his direction the airport has expanded from a city-owned airport to one that is a regional one. Gary has a remarkable leadership style as the chairman of the Airport Board. His skills and leadership are the main reason for the success of the airport over the last 10 years and a half. We all look at him as a role model for his work, not just what he does at the airport, but also within his work at PowerSouth but also for his kindness to the local community in general,” Blackwell said.

Misty Jones Dutton has worked for 20 years in the airfield, and the most recent 15 years in the management position as the airport’s administrator.

“Misty Jones Dutton is the main driver behind many activities we’ve conducted on the runway. As director, I am aware that many eyes are watching me, but she is the one who pushes me to my limits and assists me in arriving at the right decisions. She is responsible for all aspects of the financial side of our company, along with special projects, and more. She’s as committed and hard-working as you can get. She’s also among the most selfless and caring people I’ve ever met. She always puts people’s needs first. We’re incredibly grateful and privileged to have Misty be a part of this team and we are looking forward to the future of the airport we call home,” Blackwell said.
