A traditional Andalusia Tradition that got scuttled by the pandemic is back this month. St. Mary’s Episcopal Church will host the Bayou Feast on Friday, August 25.

Father Eric Mancil, rector of St. Mary’s, said that the celebration is significant for several reasons.

“First everyone anticipates the event,” Mancil said. “We aren’t able to accomplish this since before the pandemic, so it’s definitely an indication that things are returning.”

Mancil stated that, while earning money isn’t the main objective for Bayou Feast, it is the primary goal. Bayou Feast, proceeds do help fund St. Mary’s ministries, for instance, their Rice and Beans food outreach program.

Like every year, the Bayou Feast menu includes jambalaya as well as seafood gumbo with blackened fish shrimp and grits chilled boiled shrimp Mardi Gras cole slaw, New Orleans French bread, bread pudding, and a drink. Hot dogs are free for kids under 12 years old.

Terry Kyzar will direct the kitchen operations for Bayou Feast.

While food prices have been rising since the last dinner The church has decided to keep the tickets at the same price – $22 per ticket.

This year’s event will feature live music with Savage Bell and Bob Williams.

Eat-in and take-away food is available starting at 5 to seven p.m. on Friday, August 25. Tickets are available at the church office located in the 1307 E. Three Notch St., Andalusia, during office hours or from church members. There is a limit on the number of tickets, and tickets may may not be sold at the gate.
