The Straughn softball team varsity took four wins and went unbeaten in a tournament played at McKenzie on April 14 and on the following Saturday 15 April.

SHS produced strong performances both on offense and defense as they fought for winning the championship tournament.

“We did very well as a group and hit the ball well throughout the entire weekend. We also played more defensive, making only three errors over the course of Saturday,” Director of Coaching Candace Tucker stated.

The Lady Tigers scored 37 runs and gave up just three during the four games they played during their tournament. Straughn won against McKenzie 10-2, and Samson 9-1 after posting back-toback shutouts of Clarke County (7-0) and Greenville (11-0).

SHS increased their overall mark to 12-14 with the team won 5-1 over New Brockton on Tuesday, April 18. The regular season ends at home on Monday, April 24 against Luverne, and on Tuesday April 25, against Andalusia. Lady Tigers Lady Tigers will be the second seed at the 3A Area 3 Tournament in Opp.

“I believe this tournament has given us the confidence that we require to complete the regular season and move towards the tournament in the area,” Tucker said.
