Concerning the countless stories that have recently been covered in the media and shared on social media regarding United Methodist Church, I would like to say that there is no truth in these rumors. United Methodist Church, I would like to say the fact that these rumors are not the truth. I am Rev. Barbara Brewi, current pastor of the Mount Zion United Methodist Church situated within Straughn, Alabama.
The book of discipline, nor United Methodist theology, doctrine or the discipline book have been changed since the year. In actual fact, in the year 2019 the rules were strengthened in an emergency meeting of the worldwide United Methodist Church. The the requirements for clergy ordination and marriage are still extremely strict and do not allow homosexuality however, The United Methodist Church remains open to all people. We are aware that there is violations of the rule of the book by a few members of other regions in the United States; however, we, at our own Alabama-West Florida Conference and at Mount Zion UMC, have been faithful to Christian principles, rules and convictions.
The purpose of this piece is to make clear that there’s an United Methodist Church serving Covington County, Alabama. Although some churches have resigned with various Methodist religions, Mount Zion remains a UMC congregation. We continue to worship God with a variety of wonderful ways through prayer, music and the written Word.
Mount Zion plans to support the families of our local foster homes by partnering with EMBRACE which is an organization that is a part of the United Methodist Children’s Home; to strengthen Christian principles for the families within Straughn; promote Christian values for families in the Straughn community; provide Christian friendship to Straughn School students and families; provide Christian fellowship for the Straughn Community School; as well as provide a lavish offering of love and the blessings that is Jesus Christ to all in the northern areas in Covington County.
