Town and Country first opened its doors in 1951. After 72 years in operation The local shop has returned to the place it began in the heart of the center of Andalusia.
The store located situated on the bypass of the Trio shopping center along with two other shops, was able to welcome clients to the new home within the Prestwood Building on Tuesday, May 30.
“I am so thrilled about the move of Town and Country into our Square. This is the place where the shop first was founded in 1951. I’ve admired our tiny area of the Prestwood Building my entire life and have often thought about having the shop there. It’s a dream come real to operate in such a stunning and historic location,” Owner Terri Proctor stated.
Proctor as well as her partner Will have been Andalusia natives with roots which are deep in the history of Andalusia and its entrepreneurship.
“We are awestruck by Andalusia as well as the past and traditions are extremely crucial to my family. Three of my boys were given family names. My home is filled with furniture and other items belonging to great-grandparents, grandparents, and others who are special to my family. .”
Merle Jones founded Town and Country and moved it down South Three Notch Street to the former Foreman’s Funeral Home after ten years. Jones’s granddaughter Pat Thompson continued to own and run the business until a different owner purchased the business.
Proctor was the third owner during the summer of 2020. Proctor immediately began discussions informally with City of Andalusia officials about returning to the downtown area. The shop is just a few steps from the original site in 1951.
“I am enjoying designing the interior of our Court Square shop with antiques from my own home as well as new antique furniture and decor. We are extremely happy with our shop, and we look forward to showing our new and returning customers around the shop,” she said.
The store has halved its area from the prior place of business.
“As the summer continues we’ll bring new inventory. We will carry children’s clothes and have added some new collections for men. We’re still among the only one of the few boutiques that are independent around the world that carry Estee Lauder. We provide tuxedo rental for weddings, proms, and other events. We also sell suits tie, and other accessories in partnership with Jim’s Formal Wear. .”
