Today a federal judge from Montgomery, Alabama, sentenced two men to life imprisonment for their part in a sham murder scheme that led to the 27th of November, 2017 loss of life to the Enterprise woman, as announced by the Acting United States Attorney Jonathan S. Ross. No parole is available system in Federal law enforcement.

A jury in 2017 determined the following: Jason Starr, 50, from Coffee Springs, Alabama, was unhappy about how much money that his ex-wife had received following their divorce. Jason Starr hired his brother, Darin Starr, 54 who lived in Lakehills, Texas, to murder her. On the Monday after Thanksgiving, in 2017 Darin Starr was found dead by his brother’s ex-wife in their driveway while she was heading out to go to work. On the 20th of September 20, 2023 an indictment by a federal jury was convicted Jason Starr and Darin Starr of committing murder for hire. Along with the sentence of life, the judge also ordered Jason Starr to pay a fine of $25,000.00.

“This murder, which was planned and executed, caused a lot of grief to the family of the victim and the community surrounding it,” stated Acting United States Attorney Ross. “Jason along with Darin Starr should be able to live the remainder of their lives secluded from the rest of society due to the horrific act they committed.”

“Due to the outstanding investigation by the team made up of FBI, Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences as well as Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the two accused are going to be responsible for their horrific acts,” said FBI Special Agent in Charge Paul Brown. “Our prayers and thoughts for the family and loved ones of the victims. We also extend our appreciation for our police officers.”

The FBI The FBI, the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency investigated the investigation with assistant United States Attorneys B. Chelsea Phillips and Joshua J. Wendell prosecuting.
