The annual Christmas Parade will now be held on Thursday, December 15, at 7 p.m., due to Andalusia High School participating in the 4A State football championship match.
Candyland will be open on Friday, December 2, at 5 p.m.
After considering the large number of residents and students who were involved in the Auburn state championship game, the Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce announced that the parade would be postponed to Dec. 1.
Laura Wells, Executive Director of AACC, stated that the decision was reached after all parties involved in planning the parade — security, traffic control and management, participants, board members and city leaders, as well as organizers and business owners — met over the weekend. They decided to change the rules to ensure participation not just from entries but also citizens.
“We are proud of all the coaches, players, and fans who helped make this dream come true for our community. Wells stated that this is a very exciting time for our community. We will extend the deadline for entries, and will accept applications up to Wednesday, December 7.
Participants who register for the parade but are unable to attend will be reimbursed their entry fees.
Candyland will continue as planned. However, opening ceremonies won’t be held.
“Given the competition, we won’t be having the Christmas tree lit on the square nor a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Candyland like we did in previous years.” Wells stated that we have already switched on the tree lights and will officially open Christmas in Candyland on Friday at 5 p.m.
