Covington Veterans Foundation was founded with the motto “A soldier dies before he is forgotten.” The author tried to keep sailors’ and soldiers’ stories alive by writing them in AndalusiaStar News. We have shared the Covington Veterans Foundation page on Facebook and they have posted them in turn. You can also find them on our website covvets.com

Many veterans are proud of their service, and will let us write their stories. Before publishing, we always ask for the subject’s permission. Many Vietnam veterans don’t want to share their stories as it brings up negative memories. This causes them to ” relive” the past. We’ve lost many great stories as a result.

With all that being said, we encourage veterans or families of veterans, to contact the author through the Star-News, john.vick@andalusiastarnews.com if they would like to have their story told.

Below is the questionnaire that provides the necessary information for the author. John Vick, the author, would appreciate your help in keeping the story of a veteran’s life alive.

  • We need the date, place and following information:
  • Names of parents and number of siblings
  • Education, high school, college and other related subjects ;
  • Before joining the military, part-time jobs
  • Drafted or volunteered. Date, basic training location, and any additional training.
  • Date, place, arrival date, and where it was sent after arrival.
  • Sketch “in country”operations in Vietnam, or anywhere else.
  • Take notes on any battle action. We can question you in person about specifics;
  • Date of return, date for marriage, and name of spouse;
  • Education and work history after the war;
  • Finally, there are awards, medals, etc.

We are grateful for the support of veterans and their families, and we look forward to sharing many more stories. This special season we remember the sacrifices and service of all those who have served our country in order to enjoy the blessings that are America.
