Ron Yates of the Carolina community announced on Monday, November. 6 that he will be seeking an election on Covington County’s Board of Education. Covington County School Board, at 2.

He is an Florala High School graduate who recently left Pleasant Home School after 28 years of teaching. He along with his wife, Donna have two children with three children. Their two daughters, Evan, and Abi are Pleasant Home School graduates.

“Since 1992, I’ve been in a classroom instructing students from this county. I have observed how the atmosphere and style of teaching and schools has changed. As a board member I have the ability to participate in making decisions that affect the numerous challenges that face our current educational environment,” Yates said.

Yates earned his master’s degree in Biology Education from Alabama State University and bachelor’s in Comprehensive Science Education from Troy University. He taught middle school sciences, chemistry, anatomy along with biology. He has taught in LBW Community College, McKenzie High School and Pleasant Home School.

“If I’m elected, I will support policies that help teachers stay on and also work together with other members to increase student performance to prepare our county’s students for the college experience, trade schools and work. If elected, I will ensure that the education of every student as my primary concern,” he added.

Yates worked in the United States Army for 3 years. medical professional for three years in the United States Army and wrote “Finding the Lost Pieces: A Novel of loss and Love” in 2021. In the novel the protagonist Jack quits Andalusia and his closest friends behind to join the United States military.

He underwent an operation to replace his knee some time ago following a break to his leg. He had an amputation that occurred in the year 2019.
