The Jacksonville’s John Broom and Piedmont’s Alex Odam have been chosen for the Alabama Mississippi All-Star basketball match. For Broom the game is an opportunity for him to take part on the next home court. The game is scheduled for Wednesday, March 11, at South Alabama University’s Pete Mitchell Center. Broom has signed to join South Alabama. Broom as well as Odam were among the 12 players picked as part of the Boys’ Alabama All-Star team. The girls’ team has 12 players, but none from the East Alabama Sports Today coverage region. Broom was the leader in guiding the defending Class 4A state champion Jacksonville back to the Final Four at Birmingham’s Legacy Arena which is where they will play the Golden Eagles will play Hale County on Tuesday, 7:15 p.m. Broom enters the Final Four averaging 20.8 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists. Odam was the leader of Piedmont towards winning the Class 3A Northeast Regional final with a average of 25.6 points. He also had 9.2 rebound along with 7.1 assists. Odam finished the season with 329 points.

2 PIEDMONT, JACKSONVILLE 0.Brodie Homesley and Sloan Smith combined to pitch five shutout innings with nine strikeouts. Piedmont defeated Jacksonville Ace Grant Patterson in a showdown of top-five seeded teams for the upcoming Calhoun County event. The county seeding session will be held on Sunday, February 2 between 2 and 3 p.m. in the Wellborn High School. Wellborn High School.
Homesley gave up four hits, six strikeouts and one walk over five innings. Smith was the pitcher for two of those innings, with three strikeouts.
