Montgomery, AL –Governor Kay Ivey on Tuesday announced that $2.6 million of state funds is going to counties and cities to fund various bridge and road projects.
The funds are made accessible through the Annual Grant Program, a program that was established within the Rebuild Alabama Act. The Rebuild Alabama Act, overwhelmingly adopted in the Legislature and approved by the Governor Ivey in the year 2019, requires ALDOT to create an annual program that sets aside $10 million from what the government’s percentage of gas tax revenues for local projects.
“I’m pleased to present Rebuild Alabama’s next cycle funding through 2023. Alabama is taking on the challenge of vital infrastructure needs for transportation with determination, and has a solution to the challenge is at hand. That solution will be Rebuild Alabama,” said Governor Ivey. “The projects we’re announcing this morning will make significant progress across the state.”
The funding round included 11 projects that were chosen. The projects that were selected received cities and counties have also contributed more than $1.6 millions in match funds. Matching funds do not have to be used to be admissible. It is expected that many projects will be contracted before the end of the year. Each project must be completed within a year from the date of awarding funds.
It’s the 2nd round of funding for this year’s round in the Rebuild Alabama Annual Grant Program. The first round of funding saw $5.1 million given in 21 state-wide projects. In this round of awarding state funds, more than $137 million of state transportation funds have been allocated through the local grant programs established by the Rebuild Alabama Act. Grants have been granted in all the 67 counties.
