In light of the anticipated conditions Hal Taylor, Secretary of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), Hal Taylor, emphasizes how important it is to have winter vehicle preparation as well as responsible driving practices.
“Whether you’re planning the New Year’s festivities or a bowl game or just staying close to home, we urge everyone to make sure their vehicles are prepared prior to boarding their vehicles for travel,” stated Secretary Taylor. “Even in places that snow or rain aren’t predicted, unexpected weather fluctuations can throw drivers off. Being stuck at the side of the road with no adequate equipment isn’t the best option anyone would want when temperatures drop.”
To ensure a safe winter journey For safe winter travel, Secretary Taylor recommends that motorists perform thorough inspections of their vehicle, including brake lights, headlights, turning signals, defrosters windshield wipers as well as batteries, cooling systems, and tires. Furthermore, he encourages drivers to keep essential items in their vehicles to help them in winter driving and emergencies including flashlights, jumper cables, blankets, cell phones charger as well as food, water and any medications that are required.
In addition to stressing the importance of preparation The Director of ALEA’s Public Safety, Colonel Jon Archer is encouraging drivers to practice safe driving to fulfill their New Resolutions for the New Year. As part of the ongoing “12 Days of Safety” campaign Colonel Archer is encouraging Alabamans to be mindful of behavior that can lead to traffic accidents.
“Being an exemplary driver is a basic act which can make a difference in making our roads more secure for all,” remarked Colonel Archer. The most important aspects of a safe driving include not cruising on the right lane, except to pass, keeping the safe distance of following and using turn signals to change lanes as well as sharing the roadway with cyclists and pedestrians and observing the law of move-over to allow emergency vehicles.
Colonel Archer stresses the importance of adopting these safe behavior on the road not only increases safety, but also creates an enjoyable driving experience for everyone. As the Alabamians prepare for the coming calendar year ALEA urges motorists to adopt the pledge to behave courteously on the road all through 2024, while promoting safety and a sense accountability among road users of all kinds.
