Piedmont (AL) – Piedmont senior Alex Odam takes to the same floor at the Calhoun County Tournament, where he will spend the next four years.

Alex Odam (1) sits at the Piedmont Bench in the Calhoun County Tournament within Jax State’s Pete Mathews Coliseum, and cranes his neck so he can see the action on either end of the floor.

Leah Odam was able to see her son Alex’s future by watching a large-screen video montage that highlighted Jacksonville State players before Saturday’s game against Jacksonville University. JoJo Odam, husband of Alex, was seated next to her. She said, “They show each player and I was just like, ‘It’s crazy, because Alex will be up there next year.’”

Alex was at Bill Jones Court in Pete Mathews Coliseum Monday. He scored 24 points to help fifth-seeded Piedmont defeat No. 13 Pleasant Valley, 73-50, in the Calhoun County Tournament. Odam and the Bulldogs will be looking to extend their stay at the county tourney by beating No. 4 Anniston. They would be the first to reach the county quarterfinals since 2010.

Victory is the number one job for Alex Odam. 1 but the meaning of venue is changed. Jax State senior Jax State commited to him on May 13, 2013 and signed on November 10. He now knows that he will play on the same court for his college home games. He’ll have at least one more opportunity to play in The Pete High School tournament. His father added a February 1 game against Fort Payne there. That game could be another career milestone for Piedmont’s all-time top scorer.

According to AHSAA records, he needed 145 points to be the 14th player. He would need to play 6.2 games to reach this milestone, with a season average of 23.4 points. For 17th place, he passed Chase Whitley, a former Ranburne player who was also an MLB pitcher. Pleasant Valley was the first. The Bulldogs could play one more county match and possibly two more.
