Anniston AL Anniston, ALPer the Anniston Police Investigation Division on September 2, 2023 around 5:00 a.m officers of Anniston Police Department at approximately 5:00 am, officers of Anniston Police Department responded to one residence located within the 1500 block East 11 th. Street, in connection with an incident of shooting. They arrived at the scene and discovered the victim lying on the home. The victim was dead. He was identified by his name as James Delaneley Johnson, from Anniston, Alabama.
The suspect was identified and then located and detained after being identified by Anniston Police Investigators. They identified the suspect as Derrick Jerome Mathews, from Anniston, Alabama.
It is believed that the suspect and the victim were involved in an argument which resulted in the shooting. The suspect was put under arrest and charged with Murder. He was taken into the Calhoun County Jail. A bond hasn’t yet been established.
The investigation is ongoing. Additional information is not publicly available at the moment.
It was a minor incident and there isn’t any risk for the community.
