The Book’s Summary Unhappy with her familiar Alabama homeland, Ellie Fields accepts a teaching position in a small Louisiana town that lies deep in bayou country. While she’s rightfully skeptical of strangers who have posed a threat to their culture and language The majority of residents living in Bernadette, Louisiana, come to see the aspiring and young schoolteacher as a blessing for their town. She’s soon instructing everyone, but is also facing opposition from the school board as well as an unsavory politician.

As she adjusts to a completely unfamiliar world Ellie is introduced to a lonely yet intriguing Cajun fisherman called Raphe whom she introduces to the famous white alligator who lives in the waters. Raphe and Ellie have just found their way back to each other when they discover a large bounty given to the alligator that is elusive, bringing the unexpected twist of events that test their love for each other and their determination to correct a horrible mistake.
