Shooters’ consciences consider not shooting unconscionable when his team requires a large bucket. After Tuesday’s win in Class 4A, Zone 10 play by White Plains boys, Luke Bussey has a clear conscience. White Plains took the lead with a 3-pointer by Bussey, and the Wildcats won the game against visiting Cherokee County 55-52.

White Plains (13-12), is positioned for a possible coin flip for No. 2 seed in the tournament. To earn the flip with Cherokee County, the Wildcats will need to beat Cleburne County at their home on Thursday. The middle two seeds will be shared by Cherokee County and White Plains in that scenario. Chris Randall, White Plains coach, said that it doesn’t matter which jersey they wear in the tournament.

Confidence gained is more than just which team wears white and calls itself home at the gym of area champion Jacksonville in February. Bussey stated, “It is big.” “We have two major games this week. We hope to keep the momentum going, and have a large area tournament and make some noise during the playoffs.”

Bussey made a lot of noise in the fourth quarter. White Plains led 37-36 after three quarters. He scored eight of his team’s record 11 points in the final eight minutes. It was actually closer to the last four minutes. Josh Wheeler replaced A Bussey’s miss to begin the fourth quarter. Z.J. scored Silas Hines in the paint. Rosario scored on a drive, then Daniel Williams made two free throws to tie White Plains at 45-45. Bussey drained a three to make it 48:45. Randall stated that he had had two air balls but still had the guts. Randall said that Luke had two air balls and still had the guts.

DONOHO 65, WADLEY 64 – Drew Williamson made the decisive free throw with 10 seconds remaining. Sean Keel hit an inbounds ball into the backcourt with 1.5 to go to preserve another crucial area win for the Falcons.

Rich Goad and Williamson were both unexpected returnes to the line-up after being out of action. They both played major roles in the victory come-from-behind. Williamson scored 23 points, drawing attention away from other players and Goad. He also scored eight of his 12 points during the fourth quarter. Jordan Calhoun 16 points.

Korielle Beavers from Donoho said, “My goodness, man! It was crazy!” He also credited his assistant coaches with helping him find the right pieces. “I didn’t expect them to play. I hadn’t heard from them all day. They were going to play. It’s likely that they won’t play tonight.

The Falcons are still considered for hosting the tournament. The top seed will be decided by the two schools located just two miles apart if they defeat Winterboro or Faith.

MUNFORD 68 PLEASANT VALLEY 59 – PV’s Jesse Gannaway made eight 3-pointers to score 31 points, but the Raiders were unable to contain Munford’s fourth quarter assault.

Gannaway scored 18 points and hit five of his three-pointers in the third quarter, as the Raiders took a 47-45 lead. The Lions won the fourth quarter 23-12. Javion White scored eight of his 19 points, while Sylvester Smith added six to make it a tie. Munford’s Demetrius Norwood scored all 12 points in the second period.

OXFORD 56, FORT PAYNE 52. County tournament MVP Jayden Lee and the Yellow Jackets were not disappointed in winning their fifth consecutive county title. They also won on the road to clinching an Area title.

Lewis, “The Manchild,” scored 28 points to lead four Oxford scorers into double figures. He opened strong, scoring eight points in the opening quarter and finishing strong with 10, in the fourth.

Joel Van Meter, Oxford coach, said that “He’s turning around a corner.” Jaylen Alexander scored 16 goals for the Jackets while T.J. Allen had 10 and Cristian Gibson had 10.

With a victory over Gadsden City at their home Friday, the Jackets could secure the top seed and an automatic bid to the subregion tourney.

FAITH CHRISTIAN, 67, ASD55: Thomas Curlee led the Lions with 37 points in just 19 minutes. He made 16 of his 25 shots, including 5-for-7 with 3-pointers. He also grabbed eight rebounds.

WEAVER 56, WELLBORN 26 The Bearcats had a Big Three who made their offense run all season. However, with recent roster changes, they now have two sets. Tristan Brown scored 16 points, KeShawn Alle had 18, and Dawson Brooks had nine. Beau Winn, however, made B-team promotions in order to replenish the roster. Allen Harter, Kaden and Harter have all made an impact.

Winn stated that “they love to compete.” They will make mistakes but they don’t dwell too much on them. Harper, KeShawn, and Kaden have been playing together ever since elementary school. They’re a tight bunch.” Brown and Allen were the top scorers while Brooks was the best.

Winn stated, “He did an amazing job tonight.” He works from the inside out and vice versa. He did an excellent job running the floor and keeping second chance points off of the boards.

JACKSONVILLE 72 CLEBURNE COUNTY 29: Jacksonville won to stay unbeaten in Area 10 Class 4A play. John Broom had three assists and four rebounds, while Cam Johnson had eight steals and four rebounds to go along with his 23 points.
