Torry Brown, Anniston’s coach, will probably be happy when the week ends. Perhaps then his team will be able to get some rest.
For the second night straight, the Bulldogs played tight. However, this time they were able to overcome the deficit by making the free throws that nearly cost them the previous night.
They won the game against White Plains by scoring four points in the last 10 seconds of Tuesday night’s play to win their fourth consecutive victory in their fifth game in eight.
Both scores were possible thanks to offensive rebounds. Javen Croft’s rebound on a missed corner 3-pointer tied the game at 9.9 seconds. Delroy Francis scored two free throws just seconds later, after he was fouled rebounding Croft’s missed and-one. This gave the Bulldogs the lead.
White Plains had the chance to win at the end but Daniel Williams’ open view under the basket after Wildcats’ winning option was denied bounced off of the rim.
Brown stated that “We were lucky enough to get out tonight without losing and that’s very important considering how hard it was against Handley.” You don’t have to play as hard as we did last night, but you can still come out with the same amount juice. White Plains did an excellent job of defending us. They deserve all the credit, but we have to give credit to our children. They stuck with it and continued to do so.
“I used get upset when I won like that. It’s easy to be happy to win, but you soon realize that there’s more than just winning. It was ugly, but it was beautiful for me.”
The Bulldogs had been a disappointing 14-of-35 at the free throw line the night before. They barely managed a three point win over Handley. Tuesday’s game was still in play, so everybody who was there on Tuesday waited with their breath as Francis crossed the line. In the last minute and a quarter, he was 4-for-4 at the line when the Bulldogs most needed him.
Francis stated, “Coach said before the game that we should focus on the free throws.” “So I concentrated and locked in when it was my turn. Everyone was yelling at me. It was so loud that I had to muffle it.”
The Wildcats wanted to win the road game at the end. They wanted Josh Wheeler to win the 3-pointer, but they couldn’t do it on the inbounds. Instead, Z.J. Rosario took it from Carter Johnson and penetrated. He dished it to Williams, who was behind the defense but was left alone beneath. He shot high over a collapsing Croft, and Francis missed off the back side. He fell to the ground holding his head in frustration.
Chris Randall, White Plains coach, stated that they didn’t get the results they wanted. “We wanted Josh at the top. We won’t win in overtime. We didn’t want overtime. We wanted to take 3. When we didn’t hit Josh, Z.J. Z.J. made a great play to get it in there, and got a good view. But it didn’t go down.
“But then, (if it falls), we’re heading to overtime at their spot, in foul trouble. It’ll take four minutes. We didn’t want it to go into overtime. We wanted to win it with a 3.
After a terrible second quarter, the Wildcats were able to return to the game. They didn’t score any points until Luke Bussey’s three just before halftime.
Although the Wildcats only scored 14 points in the first period, Bussey’s second-half shot changed everything. With more open looks from 3, they scored five points in the second half, including one by Wheeler at 5:21. This gave them their first lead since quarter’s end. Randall leapt from his chair and raised his fist in the air.
Randall stated that shooting one with a bulldog in your face is a different thing than shooting one openly. “The bulldog was on us in the second quarter. We were open in the third quarter, and early in the fourth. We got help and put together some simple buckets.
White Plains led 41-31 with 3:00 left. The Wheeler 3 was part a 13-0 run that opened the fourth quarter. The Wildcats were unable to make a free throw and close the game. After the first quarter, they were 1-of-6 at the line and 1-of-4 in final 68 seconds.
Randall stated, “You don’t deserve to lose when you’re 1-for-6 from a free throw in the last minute.” “I need to do a better job getting us to feel confident enough to win games.

The Bearcats finally got the start they wanted, shaking off the slow starts that had frustrated them for most of the season. But now, they must learn how to finish.
Four 3-pointers were made by the Bearcats in the first quarter, giving them a lead of 19-11. They led by three at the half. But they lost the lead in the second half and couldn’t recover. With 45 seconds remaining, they had an open shot at a game-tying basket but Tristan Brown’s shot missed and the Eagles won.
Beau Winn, Weaver coach, said that “We won the first half and maintained the second quarter; that was our goal tonight.” “We have started games so badly I tried to do something to reduce the time.”
Brown scored a 3-pointer during all four quarters, leading the Bearcats’ with 16 points. After being held scoreless last night, Armane Burton scored eight points. Elijah Smith made two 3s in quarter one and finished the game with eight.

Anniston’s defense was on fire in the third quarter Tuesday night, and the Lady Bulldogs won a victory over White Plains by a score of 42 to 26.
White Plains was held scoreless by the Lady Bulldogs in the third quarter. They also did not concede a field goal for over 11 minutes in the second period to take full control of the game. The Lady Wildcats were outscored 16-0 by the Lady Bulldogs in the third quarter. They created 10 turnovers and limited them to four shots.
With 6:11 remaining in the game, the Lady Wildcats scored the second half with two Isabella Higgins free shots. Cooper Martin scored their first field goal with just 4:36 remaining on a 3-pointer.
Junior Tykeria Smith stated that coach Eddie Bullock told us to play hard in defense when we entered the locker room. So, we did exactly what he instructed. “We had to work hard, get a lot of balls and make fewer turnovers. We must play defense well because we can’t have offense without it.
Smith is adapting to her new role as the Lady Bulldogs main scorer. This night, she led the team with 18 points. She scored three points late in the first quarter, giving them a lead of 12-6. Then she scored seven more points in the second quarter to give them a 23-15 halftime advantage.
She said, “It’s a huge adjustment, but it is something I have to do for my teammates.” “I am one of the upperclassmen, so I must work hard. This is a significant role for me.
