Plainview was a synonym for 3-point shooting during Robi Coker’s time as the Bears head coach. However, Jacksonville’s youngsters dominate the field on Tuesday.
The Golden Eagles made 14 of 23 threes, and kept Plainview to just 5-for-19 in a 67-63 win at home.
The two-time reigning Class 4A champions, still not having football players that will be playing in Friday’s quarterfinal match against Catholic Montgomery defeated an enormous gap regarding free-throws. Plainview made 18 of 22 and Jacksonville scored 7-for-10.
“Definitely did a great job shooting the ball this evening, particularly during the second quarter,” second-year Jacksonville coach Tres Buzan said. “Really impressive performance by Devin Barksdale. Excellent job on scoring and the assist this evening.
“We also saw some very good guard play and a decent defense to wrap it up. We’re not quite a full team but it’s great to see our team competing and performing effectively. I hope we’ll continue to move in the right direction, and increase our growth and become better as we go.”
