Calhoun County in Alabama – Saturday Basketball: Anniston beats Piedmont with its free throws during overtime.
The Anniston Bulldogs had been worried about their free throw line problems not too long ago. It helped them win a fierce game on Saturday.
Piedmont was defeated 68-63 by the Bulldogs in overtime. They won it by hitting 10 of the 14 extra periods from the line. They were 24-of 38 in the game.
Anniston coach Torry brown’s son Kyron Brown made 5-of-6 in overtime. Bulldogs’ leading scorer Delroy Francis (19) had five points in overtime. He also scored three points and made two free throws.
In regulation, the teams played to a 55:55 tie. Alex Odam of Piedmont missed the buzzer shot that would have won it in regulation.
Odam, who lost in overtime, was awarded 16 points. Piedmont’s freshman Rollie pinto scored 20 points. Ish Bethel scored 14 thanks to four 3-pointers in the second half. The Bulldogs recovered from a six point deficit by scoring three points in the fourth quarter when Bethel scored three.

BOB JONES 46, OXFORD33: Justice Woods scored 17 points in the second half. Mya McGrue had 12. Oxford however got just four points from the rest of its lineup and lost the Tournament of Champions.
Woods scored 15 points during the second half in the 8 a.m. match. She didn’t play the day before, but she returned to the game after halftime. Woods scored all 20 points in the second period to lead the Lady Jackets (53-48) victory over Austin.
Xai Whitfield, who suffered an ankle injury last weekend, didn’t participate in either of the games. They were also msising Keziah Muller in Austin.
The weekend was a success for the Lady Jackets. They had the opportunity to play a two big system in Saturday’s game. It was all about seeing different competition throughout the weekend.
Melissa Bennett, Oxford coach, said that Huntsville has a long tradition of being a strong basketball city. There are many great schools up there. It was great to see other people and different competition.
