Savannah Smith homered, drove two runs, and pitched a complete game of eight innings The softball team of Piedmont defeated Sand Rock 5-2 on Monday.
Smith went 3-for-3, scoring two RBIs and two runs. As a catcher, she spewed 8 hits, and hit 12 batters in the process of giving up two earned runs and a walk.
Smith’s solo home run in the sixth made it 2-2 while Smith’s solo home run in the sixth inning tied it at 2-2. Bulldogs (29-14) added three more runs at the upper part 8th. Sarah Goss led off the rally with a triple, and scored by scoring on Jenna’s sacrifice fly.
Cacey Brothers reached for an option for a fielder, and Armoni Perry made an mistake. Both scored.
Smith pitched five strikeouts during Sand Rock’s last three at bats, and allowed one hit and an intentional walk to clear the bases.
Goss was 2-for-4 with two runs.
Jacksonville 5, Weaver 4:Carli Fritts took out eleven batters, walked four times and scattered seven home runs as Jacksonville (12-14) stood firm against the threat of a Weaver rally.
The Bearcats (15-8) scored twice thanks to Jadyn Smith’s two-run homer in the sixth to be within 5-4. However, Fritts induced a groundout in the sixth to stop the threat. She batted out two batters within the seventh.
