HANDLEY the Class 4A Area 8 race for girls’ basketball has just become more intriguing.
Zanautika Smith was the star of the well-balanced effort, scoring 11 points. Handley beat Anniston 44-33 to move to 16-4 overall on the season.
Anniston (18-3) was stricken by its first loss in 4A opponents this season. Two of its losses were in the 6A Parker and Pell City.
Handley scored nine points with Akia Brown, Takeriauna Mosley. They scored eight points and two 3-pointers by Kristiana Tucker, and 6 points for Takeira Tucker.
The Tigers beat Anniston 15-4 in the final quarter to gain control.
A’Kayla Perry paced Anniston in scoring with 14 points including two 3-pointers.
CLEBURNE County 44; Weaver 37 Cleburne County’s Faith Brown scored 29 points and 23 in the second half and also grabbed 15 rebounds.
