Handley -Handley – Cannon Kyle’s forty-yard touchdown to Amajah Williams provided Handley the lead at the end of the game, and E.J. Goss scored a touchdown during the time that the Tigers beat Jacksonville in the Region 4 game on Friday.

The match between Class 4A’s fifth and sixth-ranked teams was the regional opening game for the two teams, and provided Handley an advantage in the race for the region.

The Tigers are 3-0 overall and 1-1 in the region. Jacksonville is 2-1 and 1-1.

Kyles touchdown catch to Williams provided Handley an advantage of 26-24 with 58.7 seconds remaining at the end of third quarter.

Jacksonville gained a advantage of 24-20 after Jim Ogle’s 13-yard score to Ky’dric Fish at 9:25 of the 3rd quarter.

Ogle also completed the 25-yard touchdown pass of Damonte Sinclair to pull Jacksonville close to 20-17 at halftime and a 74-yard pass to Fisher to bring Jacksonville’s Golden Eagles to within 14-10 at 9:07 in the second.

Ogle finished 16 out of his 31 passes for 3 touchdowns and 257 yards Then Fisher took 11 passes for 219 yards. Xza English ran with 97 yards.

Kyles took 20-yard runs to score a touchdown and also threw a 39-yarder pass to Montrevious Black. Handley established a 14-3 advantage. The Goss touchdown run turned it 20-10 in the 6:58 mark of the 2nd quarter.

Kyles played the total of 172 yards, which included 111 yards rushing. Goss ran for 188 yards, and added two scores.

OHATCHEE 34 Westbrook CHRISTIAN 33At Ohatchee in the Ohatchee region, the Indians led 26-6 but then saw Westbrook Christian rally to lead 27-26, after they reclaimed an offsides kick.

Ohatchee returned to a lead of 34-27 after the quarterback Jake Roberson connected with Jesse Baswell on fourth down, and 14 and Baswell was the one to snap the direct shot for an extra two points.

Will Folsom broke up Westbrook’s two-point goal with 30 seconds remaining, and then Colby Hester recovered Westbrook’s onsides kick.

The game was the first to mark the former Piedmont head coach Steve Smith’s regular season returning in Calhoun County, as Westbrook Christian’s head coach for the first time in his career. He led Piedmont up to five State championships in 17 years prior to retiring from public schools and transitioning to Westbrook.

“We were unable to stop them from the zone of goal and they gave the score a boost within 30 seconds,” Ohatchee coach Chris Findley stated. “I observed Coach Smith hold up two fingers, and we knew that this game was going to be the deciding factor.

“I used our final timeout and attempted to get our players back together. We played man coverage on the play which was successful, and Will Folsom was able to make a major breakup in the pass. It was a major play. Then, we needed prepare for another onside kick which was successful, which Jake Roberson was able to get it again to seal it for us.”

Ohatchee has improved to 3-0 and 1-1 in Class 3A, Region 6. Westbrook is 2-1 and 1-1.

Baswell was able to run 17 times with 160 yards, four scores and four TDs. Baswell also caught three passes for the same distance and scored an interception.

Hester was responsible for the team with 48 rushing yards, 30 receiving yards, and an interception, which was his second successful onsides kick in the regular season.

Roberson was successful on five out of twelve passes, gaining 101 yards. He also scored one touchdown.

QB Westbrook Greyson Carroll went 13-for-25 for 226 yards and three touchdowns. Cooper Greer caught eight passes for 110 yards, and two touchdown and Lamycal Mitchell scored touchdowns on each of his catches which totaled 93 yards.

Hunter Arnold had 10 carries for 110 yards, and scored two points.

OXFORD 42 SHADES Valley 13.Mason Mims completed 18-of-23 passes, resulting in the 172-yards and 2 touchdowns and Oxford beat Shades Valley 42-13 at the start of Class 6A region 6 opening game for the two teams on Friday.

D.K. Wilson ran six times, gaining 112 yards, and scored touchdown runs of 52 and 42 yards. He also was the recipient of a touchdown pass.

Camare Hampton took seven catches for the 82 yards and scored an interception.

Oxford also had 10 tackles, including a sack by Keenan Britt. Desmond Whitson added six stops.

Oxford has improved to 3-0 and is now a with a 1-0 regional record. It’s a good start for the Yellow Jackets’ 3-0 start is the best they have had since the state championship team of 2019 took seven wins in the beginning seven contests.

ANNISTON 47 Munford 14, 14:Anniston recovered strongly following its loss to Andalusia last week to move to 2-1 for the season and 1-0 in Class 4A Region 4. Munford is 1-1, with a 0-1 record.

Quarterback Gavin Doss ran for two 1-yard touchdown runs, and also toss the ball 13 yards to T.K. Downie.

Jaden Dobbins ran a touchdown run of 48 yards, and Jayden Heard returned with a punt, scoring. William Grayson had a 3-yard touchdown run.

“Great bounce-back victory,” the first year Anniston head coach Rico Jackson said. “I believed that we played a more clean game than the last time.

“Jaden Dobbins was a star in the game , as did Gavin Doss and T.K. Downie. We created the run, which we worked on for the entire week. We are proud of our boys.”

Pleasant Valley 34, WEST END 14:Jaden Sparks and Holt Bentley scored two touchdowns as well as Braxton Salster scored one touchdown run in the process of gaining 181 yards of rushing as Pleasant Valley (2-0) started Class 2A region 6 games with a win.

The Raiders scored their first 2-0 win since 2016.

Sparks was a 15-time runner to 65 yards. Bentley scored 80 yards on seven runs.

Clark Hill had 29 yards on four carries. He also led the Raiders defensive line with eleven tackles. He also had the two tackles that cost him. Bryce Freeman had nine tackles and Samuel Duncan eight.

“So satisfied with the offensive today,” Pleasant Valley coach Jonathan Nix said. “We had a goal everytime we had the ball, but only twice. The first time was a punt. The second one time was a victory at the final whistle.

“The team in front was in control of that line. The defense came up with a massive effort at halftime and prevented West End to zero points in the second half. It was the result of a team effort.”

CLEBURNE COUNTY 42 TALLADEGA 13:The Tigers made it 2-0 after beginning Class 4A, Region 4 games with an win.

Quarterback Hunter Gore hit on eight of 12 passes to score 2 touchdowns and 104 yards The Tigers completed 138 yards of passes during the game. Grey Freeman caught three passes for 54 yards and two scores.

Jake Dingler rushed for 122 of Cleburne’s 275 yards in the air, with two touchdowns. Austin Mayfield rushed for 40 yards in five carries and one touchdown.
